The Name of the Lord

My Refuge
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms:
and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; - Deuteronomy 33:27

A Refuge in the Time of Trouble
A refuge is made for the time of trouble. Job lamented, "Man is born for trouble as the sparks fly upward." A refuge is not made for the sunny spring morning when all is well. A refuge is not made for the lazy summer afternoon when you float aimlessly with your rod and reel. A refuge is not made for times of weddings and birth of children. A refuge is made for the time of trouble.

Trouble will come as surely as the thunderstorms of spring, or the hurricanes of fall. It is part of nature. Life is a mixture of good things and bad things. No one is ordained to have all good and no evil. One must take the bad with the good.

There is a vulgar truism in the secular world, I hesitate to use it, but it summarizes it well, "Stuff happens." It does and what is one to do.

There is a wonderful old Gospel song that describes the day of trouble and the refuge we have in our Savior and God. It is titled Till the Storm Passes By.

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Till the Storm Passes By
Words and Music by Mosie Lister copyright 1958

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Chorus
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try,
For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by"
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.
