A R T I C L E A R C H I V E S (story from Wednesday, February 14, 2001) Bullets Don't Kill GUINEA We were also encouraged to see the faith and commitment of believers as they put their confidence and trust in Christ and not in their ancient practices of magic. There is a practice where people can be washed in a ceremony by the witchdoctor, and the bullets of the enemies will not be able to kill them. Some young Christians were conscripted into the forces. They were told they had to be washed in this way. When they refused they were tied and physically hauled to the area where this ceremony was being conducted. When they arrived there they told the authorities that they did NOT want to be washed, their faith was in Christ. If the authorities wanted to force them to be washed, they should just kill them right there. If not then they said the authorities should free them and let them go. They were freed, and were conscripted. When the battle came to their community, they were placed on the front lines, and were not given any weapons. Not one of these young believers was killed, and others who had been washed lost their lives. Now the people in the region are accusing the Christians for the ineffectiveness of their ancient magic practices. This has become a dividing line for the Christians, and they are being persecuted for their refusal to participate in these ancient practices. Some Christians are yielding to the pressure. Please pray for our church and believers as they face this issue. In His care, Dan & Melodie Ibsen |
